Getting to Know Marie

We’re so excited to introduce you to another incredible Lulalu Lady. We received a ton of amazing and inspiring submissions, but one truly rose above the rest.

Tell us about yourself.

I am 74 years old, and have FINALLY found the first REAL bras (not camis, not big bras that are simply scaled down, or training bras that don't fit an adult back) that fit and flatter!  Imagine living that long without a bra that fits!  Back in the '60s, I had blow-up bras (yes, it was a thing), so fake! 

I live in Sarasota, FL, with my husband and 2 cats. I am retired from paid work, and now I'm an amateur artist.

What’s something that you are proud of?

I am a founding and active member of the Sarasota chapter of IMPACT100-- part of a world-wide, growing IMPACT organization.  IMPACT 100 is a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers women through collective giving (through our membership dues) to make meaningful change in our community.

Each year, with 2019 being our first giving year, members' dues ($1,000 per member) fund grants to local non-profits in amounts of at least $100,000.  In 2020, we have 342 members, so we will be able to give 3 grants of $114,000.  Grant applications go through a rigorous process of review and on-site visits.  The projects we fund must be sustainable and achievable within 2 years.  All members may vote on the finalists.

One of the appeals of this group is that EVERY DOLLAR of dues goes directly to the non-profit grant winners.  The organization is volunteer-run, its expenses supported by in-kind donations and other donations outside of dues.  I've joined with many other like-minded women of all ages who make this group a vibrant, giving community.

What’s a new goal that you’ve become committed to achieving?

During the corona virus crisis, I read that the environment improved remarkably.  One can actually see, universally, and experience locally, the environmental impact that humans have.  So, I have promised myself to devote more of my time and resources to local environmental conservation.

What are your favorite things to do? 

I'm very active and athletic (walking, cycling, swimming, and strength training), a life-long habit that once included competitive running and triathlons.

Out of all the Lulalu bras you own, which is your favorite go-to and why?

I love the assist that my Lulalu bras give to my body shape!  The soft fabric is so comfortable, and my clothes fit better.  My favorite is the Delilah.  I have several of these because they are so versatile, and the fabric is soft against my skin, and the lift and support are perfect.

Any tips or words of wisdom to help other Lulalu Ladies feel inspired or empowered?

I feel most inspired when I'm giving back to my community, through organizations like IMPACT100.  I also find inspiration in creating art.  This hobby has been a great way to spend "shelter in place" time during the lockdown months, which has been the silver lining for me.
